UltraViolet, Hollywood platform digital content


he premiere on DVD and Blu-ray of the movie "Horrible Bosses" today marked the debut of the UltraViolet platform, a system promoted by the major Hollywood studios to modernize its business of selling movies and TV series to the final consumer.

Fox, Paramount, Sony, Universal and Warner have joined forces to counter the gradual loss of revenues from home video and try to curb piracy through marketing rights for audiovisual content viewing.

Buyers of products with the seal of UltraViolet acquire licenses that allow them to see these productions for life that will be hosted in the cloud and be accessible from Internet-connected devices.

UltraViolet launched studies related to the acquisition of a film on a physical medium, but the goal of the platform is to offer users the ability to purchase and view content directly from an online library, as published on its website.

After "Horrible Bosses" will come over the next three months the following titles compatible with UltraViolet: "Green Lantern", "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2," "Smurfs" and "Friends with Benefits".

UltraViolet, which requires creating a user account, permission to download movies onto various media, and make copies of DVDs or memory cards at no extra charge although there will be a limitation of 12 different devices to enjoy the movie or series.

Up to six persons resident in the same household may associate your customer accounts and share content legally.

For now, Apple has not adopted the system so UltraViolet purchases through iTunes are not compatible with the platform of the studies.

Former CEO of Apple, Steve Jobs, who died last week, was a major shareholder of Disney, a company that is developing its own digital content distribution is known as Keychest.

The consortium is also made DECE multinationals like Microsoft, IBM, Nokia, Intel, Motorola and Samsung, announced the arrival of UltraViolet as part of the largest international electronics show, Consumer Electronics Show (CES), held in January in Las Vegas, Nevada.
