Xbox 720 CPU details revealed: 8-core 1.6GHz 4M cache

Some of the details about the Xbox 720 online today. Xbox 720 CPU has two modules, respectively, containing four x86 cores. Each core running at 1.6GHz single-threaded, and has a 32KB instruction cache (I-cache) and 32KB data cache (D-cache). In addition, each module in the four core shared 2MB L2 cache (L2 cache). Therefore, the entire processor has eight hardware threads and 4MB cache.

Is worth noting that the Xbox 720's CPU is only running at 1.6GHz, actually only contemporary Xbox 360's half. Xbox 360 released in 2005, based on the PowerPC core processor running at 3.2GHz.

Despite the lower clock frequency, but the Xbox 720 CPU will obviously than the Xbox 360 faster, thanks inside the processor hardware optimization, including two x64 instruction decoder can decode two instructions in an always-cycle.
